Dunbar High School – Glory Road Site
Dunbar High School
Lexington, Kentucky1922-1967
Segregation, the separation of races, included a series of laws starting around 1865 dictating black and minority lives. It went from not being able to learn in the same school to not being able to use the same public toilet. During this era of segregated education in Kentucky, Dunbar High School became one of the leading academic institutions for black students in the state. Named for the famed black poet, Dunbar provided a quality education to its students and served as a center of attention for the black community of Lexington, Kentucky.
As for sports, the school would dominate across football and basketball. Under the reigns of Legendary Coach S.T. Roach, the original Dunbar basketball team made six state tournament appearances between 1957-1967. This Glory Road Heritage Series Game today is significant today because Central was the all-black school in Louisville, Kentucky and Dunbar was the all-black school in Lexington, Kentucky. This game allows for the two schools, who experienced the same struggles back then, to experience an integrated world today, while having fun through the game of basketball!

Paintsville High School vs. Pikeville High School
The first ever basketball game held in the current Paintsville High School gymnasium took place over 70 years ago on December 9, 1952 against Flat Gap with the Tigers defeating the Greyhounds 72-50. Since construction, this gymnasium has been the home to not only boys varsity basketball games but also girls basketball games, middle school basketball games, volleyball games, proms, homecoming dances, pep rallies, graduations, and much more. The history and memories created in this site span several generations in the Paintsville community. When individuals step onto the floor for a game or walk across the stage during graduation, they are joining Paintsville alumni from the past 70 years who have shared this same experience.

Monticello High School (Wayne County High School) vs. Somerset High School
On behalf of the KHSBHF I wanted to issue our appreciation and admiration for the class way the WCHS Athletic Department -Fans and Community managed the Heritage game on February 8th at the Monticello HS gymnasium. The game was played intensely -officiated well -coached exceptionally -managed beautifully- supported by fans/cheerleaders /band earnestly -And even the concessions were tasty! Do not know how it could have been any better!!????Our goal of assisting Communities – Schools and basketball programs in rekindling rivalry games in our historical gymns was realized . You created a templet for all future games across the state as we carry our mission forward.Respectfully,Ken TrivetteKentucky HS Basketball Hall of Fame
